Between Sleeps
the 3:15 experiment 1993-2005
Edited by Danika Dinsmore and Gwendolyn Alley
From 1993 through 2005, a shifting menagerie of poets scattered across the globe
engaged in a unique experiment: to write every August morning at 3:15 am, wherever
they were and whatever they were doing. Between sleeps compiles texts from
participating writers from every year of the experiment.
An exercise exploring hypnogogic and hypnompic states (between sleeping and waking),
The 3:15 Experiment challenges writers to write outside the confines of their work-a-day
consciousness and provides insight into a collective nighttime mind.
“It’s the middle of the night, you can either die or make love at the hands of the cobra commander…”
