Last week was Children’s Book Week, and authors toured, story-told (that’s a word!), gave books away, and otherwise celebrated children’s literature in bookstores, schools, homes, and libraries.
I only managed to visit about 8 blogs on the Children’s Book Week Giveaway Hop, but still managed to win a copy of An Unstill Life by Kate Larkindale, which looks like a great read.
I had a giveaway for the Hop and I’d like to thank everyone who entered and tweeted and posted and face booked. There were far more entries than I expected! Congratulations to the winners:
Cheryl Booth Rogers
I gave them both a choice of prizes and they both selected to receive the first 3 books in the WF series, which means that I still have a copy of Now Write! Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror and Futuredaze: Anthology of YA Science Fiction.
I loved the Futuredaze anthology. I loved it so much I wanted to gift a copy to someone else. And I have to admit I’ve only glanced through the Now Write! book b/c I’ve been so dang busy. But there are an overwhelming about of respected writers inside contributing advice and writing exercises, so I know it’s going to be extremely useful and I can’t wait to get to it.
MORE GIVEAWAY!
So… I am going to split them up and give them away separately. One person will win the Now Write book and one person will win the Futuredaze anthology (North America only, sorry folks)
All you have to do is tell me why you want the book (or books)
OR
why you enjoy science fiction and/or fantasy
and I’ll have my elves pick a winner.
CONTEST CLOSES Sunday, May 25

I would love to have either one of these books, because I had never heard of either one before you mentioned them, and that’s what I love about social media and the writing community—how it opens new worlds and I hear about things I otherwise would not have. I’d like the fiction anthology (which my library does not have), but I’d also particularly like the “how to” book, because I could use it not only for myself but to help other authors who are writing in those genres. And I just discovered that the Now Write! book is part of a whole series, each one specializing in a particular genre (like mystery or memoir). How cool is that? Thanks again for letting me know about these books.
Danika Dinsmore says
For sure. I’d say the majority of books I’ve learned about in the past several years came from social media.

Both of these books sound great, but I’d be more interested in Now Write! I’ve been trying to find some different writing exercises and I tend to write about paranormal things, so I think it would be perfect. Thank you for doing this giveaway!
Danika Dinsmore says
You’re welcome and thanks for playing!

I would love either book! I write speculative fiction and am always looking for ways to improve. I’m in the middle of working on a YA novel, so I’d like to see more of what is out there. Thank you for hosting the giveaway and for showcasing pretty interesting books! 🙂

The YA science fiction is really great in Futuredaze. It was so good I couldn’t believe a story of mine was included! 🙂
Silvana Goldemberg (@Sil_Goldemberg) says
I’d like to read NOW WRITE! because I’m working on a manuscript with writing exercises and I’m learning how other writers present their job. On the other hand, as an Argentine author living in Canada, I’m learning to write in English. Thank you very much, Danika!
Danika Dinsmore says
Thanks for stopping by, Silvana, and good luck with both!

Hi Danika! I’d totally love to read Now Write! I currently lead a young writer’s cub and would love to try out some of the exercises not only for me but for them! Thanks for the opportunity.
Danika Dinsmore says
Ooh, that’s a good reason. You are going to make it hard for the elves to pick a winner. May have to be random.

Hi Danika. Both books sound great! Thanks for alerting us to them. I’ve always loved reading sci fi/speculative fiction that puts ordinary people into richly created other worlds, but haven’t managed to write any yet. I’ve also been looking for a new YA science fiction collection (I like reading short stories as a break between novels) and hadn’t heard of this one, so would love to win the collection (and congrats on your included story!) 🙂 .
Danika Dinsmore says
Thanks! And I guess the Futuredaze anthology was so well-received they are doing a second one! This time with some pretty heavy hitters.
I also have an exercise in the Now Write anthology. Guess I should have mentioned that. I was so pleased I picked up some extra copies of each. 🙂

I would love the “Now Write!” book–goodness knows I need a kick in the pants with my writing, and that’s just my genre!
Danika Dinsmore says
Super, Sydney, Thanks for playing. Elves will announce the winners first thing tomorrow morning.
