The Darkest Hour
My character’s darkest hour happens when…
Prisa’s darkest hour happens when she returns to Mervania to find that the Glypogs have invaded Mervania and it’s all her fault. They’ve locked up all the Mervanians, who she wants to hate, but she’s realized on her epic journey that changes needed to Mervania have to come from the inside and that they’ve just been doing what’s always been done. It’s a system, long used, and time to go. Even the exploited have accepted things that need not be. The Glypogs have confiscated all the conch shells used to call the birds. They say they will kill a Mervanian a day until someone teaches them how to call the animals of the sea. The Mervanian’s only communicate with the birds, they have no knowledge of using conch shells to call other creatures. The Glypogs accuse them of lying, saying that Prisa spoke with sea creatures. The Mervanians say this is impossible, that zada have no such skills. They bring Prisa forward to demonstrate, which, to their surprise, she does by calling a dolphin to leap over the Glypog ship. To their surprise as well, Prisa is now green and not colourless at all. The only reason the zada have been colorless was because they hadn’t fulfilled their potential. And now, Prisa must prove herself and fix the situation or lose the only family she has ever known.
